Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about how Pass It Home Initiative works.
We accept a wide range of clean, safe, functional household goods — not just furniture. This includes furniture, kitchenware, pots and pans, dishes, small appliances, children's toys and baby items, lamps, home accessories, storage items, and more. Items should be clean, reasonably movable, and accurately described.
Mattresses require careful evaluation due to hygiene and safety concerns. We evaluate mattress donations on a case-by-case basis. A mattress must be in genuinely good condition, free of stains, odors, and any pest exposure. Please submit a donation form with detailed photos and we will let you know if we can accept it.
Large appliances are evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on our current storage capacity, transportation resources, and whether we have a recipient who needs the item. Please submit a donation form with photos and we will be in touch.
No. Pickup depends on our available transportation, scheduling, storage capacity, and the nature of the item. Submitting a donation form is the first step, but it does not guarantee that we will be able to pick up the item. We will contact you to discuss options if we are able to accept it.
In some cases, yes. For large or heavy items, disassembly may be required to safely move the item from your space. We will discuss this with you when coordinating pickup. If disassembly is needed and you are unable to do it yourself, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
Delivery is available in some cases but is not guaranteed. It depends on our available transportation, volunteer resources, your location, and the size of the item. If delivery is not possible, we will work with you to arrange a convenient pickup location. Please indicate on your request form whether delivery assistance is needed.
Pass It Home Initiative is a community program open to individuals and families in our service area who have a genuine need for household goods. We do not require proof of income, immigration status, or other documentation. We ask that recipients be honest about their needs and that items received are kept for personal household use rather than resale.
Yes. Items distributed through Pass It Home Initiative are offered at no cost to recipients. We are a community program, not a store. We do not charge for items, though recipients may need to arrange or assist with their own pickup in some cases.
Timelines vary depending on our current capacity, item availability, and scheduling. Because this is a student-run program, response times may be slower during academic periods. We appreciate your patience and ask that you contact us if you have an urgent need.
Our current service area is [ placeholder — add your service area here ]. We may be able to serve surrounding areas depending on the item and logistics. Please contact us if you are unsure whether we can help in your location.
At this time, we are primarily focused on the donation and redistribution of physical household goods. If you are interested in supporting the program in another way, please reach out through the contact form — we'd love to hear from you.
We are always open to hearing from people who want to help. If you'd like to volunteer — whether to help with pickups, deliveries, logistics, or outreach — please send us a message through the contact form and tell us a little about yourself and how you'd like to help.
Yes. Schools, shelters, social service agencies, religious organizations, and other community groups are welcome to refer individuals and families. Applicants may indicate a referring organization on the request form. If your organization would like to establish a formal referral relationship, please contact us.
If we are unable to accept an item, we will let you know and may be able to suggest other local resources. We do not arrange disposal of items we decline. The item remains the donor's responsibility.
Yes, you may request multiple items. Please submit a separate request form for each item, or describe multiple needs in your general request. Keep in mind that our ability to fulfill requests depends on available inventory, and we may not be able to fulfill every request at once.
No. To protect everyone's privacy and safety, donor and recipient contact information is never shared between parties. All coordination — including pickup, delivery, and communication — goes through the Pass It Home Initiative team. Visiting a donor's address without a confirmed arrangement is not permitted.
